Systemic Cryotherapy Center

Systemic cryotherapy is a therapy using low temperatures for medical purposes, characterized by an extremely advantageous effect on the human body. The center performs the referral free of charge within contract with the National Health Fund and provides medical services to private persons.

The most common indications for treatment are:
  • Inflammatory diseases of the joints: rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA),
  • ankylosing spondylitis (AS), gout;
  • degenerative diseases of the spine and peripheral joints, discopathies;
  • fibromyalgia;
  • traumatic and overload disorders of musculoskeletal system;
  • multiple sclerosis;
  • spastic paresis;
  • athletic recovery.

The Cryotherapy Center performs treatments using nitrogen-free, therapeutic ELECPOL chamber. Cold is produced in the electric refrigeration system.
The cubicle has two chambers: the first one helps in adapting to low temperatures, while the second cabin is the main chamber where the proper cooling of cells takes place. The maximum temperature reduction in the individual circuits is: to -35°C (-31°F), -75°C (-103°F) and -125°C (-193°F).
The system of three chambers allows for optimal control and dosage of therapeutic coolant, namely cold air. Every time after the treatment we provide 30 min. of exercises with devices such as bicycles, treadmill, crosstrainer. Systemic cryotherapy treatments are performed from Monday to Friday with the assistance of experienced physiotherapists and constant access to a specialist.

According to current regulations, the National Health Fund (NFZ) finances two series – 10 procedures of systemic cryotherapy each, however no more frequently than twice a year. Rehabilitation treatment encloses a series of ten procedures preceded by a medical consultation (treatments from Monday to Friday). Qualification for the procedures in the cryogenic chamber takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. and Wednesdays from 1.30 p.m. to 4.45 p.m.
Registration for systemic cryotherapy procedures (cryogenic chamber) takes place in the room 38 (cryogenic chamber), level 0 (in the vicinity of the gym), from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., tel.: 12 68 76 452.
The referral may be issued by a specialist from the following clinics: rehabilitation clinic, rheumatology clinic, trauma and orthopedic clinic, neurology clinic, and by the physicians of the rehabilitation department, the department of rheumatology, the department of trauma and orthopedic and of the neurology department. Referrals for rehabilitation in all ranges do not have any expiry date. The exception is the referral for physiotherapy treatments, which should be registered within 30 days. At this time the referral must be registered regardless of when the rehabilitation would begin. The date of registration does not determine the date of rehabilitation commencement.
In order to take advantage of the treatments, one should have personal protective equipment: gloves, ear-muffs or a cap, socks, leggings, bathing suit. Face masks and shoes (clogs) are provided by the hospital. In order to take part in the exercises immediately after the treatment in the cryogenic chamber, the patient should bring shoes for change and clothes for exercising.
