About the Department


The Department has 19 beds, including 7 beds for neurological rehabilitation, and functions 24h. The unit provides comprehensive rehabilitation benefits to adult patients who require rehabilitation, and 24h medical and nursing supervision as well as therapeutic, educational and prophylactic activities due to the continuation of treatment.

What we treat


Mainly:

  • Conditions after injuries of the musculoskeletal system,

  • Conditions after surgeries in the field of musculoskeletal system;

  • Conditions after exacerbation of chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases, e.g.: rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis;
  • Severe osteoarthritis, including rehabilitation after orthopedic surgeries – joint arthroplasties;
  • Severe back pains, including pains after surgeries;
  • Chronic neurological disorders (Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis);
  • Musculoskeletal birth defects;
  • Conditions after limb amputation.
Within the Sub-department of Neurological Rehabilitation, the Department carries out the rehabilitation of the patients with brain damage (mainly cerebral stroke, neurosurgical surgery, craniocerebral trauma), tensions of the spinal cord functions and nerve roots, with disorders of the peripheral nervous system and muscular dystrophies.
The Department cooperates with the Faculty of Heath Sciences of the Jagiellonian University and the University of Physical Education. The Department conducts lectures and trainings for students of the aforementioned colleges and for students of massage school.

For Patients


 

  • All admissions to the Department of Rehabilitation are planned. The physician of the Department makes a qualification based on the patient’s referral and current medical documentation confirming the diagnosis and the assessment of the clinical state. Patients are entered into the queue and are hospitalized in accordance with the order. They are notified about the date of admission by the telephone.
  • referrals for systemic rehabilitation are issued by:

  1. The physicians of trauma and orthopedic, surgical, neurologic, rheumatologic, internal medicine, oncology, gynecology, urology, cardiology and geriatric departments;
  2. In the case of exacerbation of chronic diseases – by the physician of:
  • rehabilitation clinic,

  • trauma and orthopedic clinic,

  • neurological clinic,

  • rheumatology clinic.

The referral for neurological rehabilitation is issued by:

  • the department of anesthesiology and intensive care, the department of neurology, neurosurgery, general surgery, trauma and orthopedics, infectious diseases, internal medicine, after neurological consultation;

  • the specialist rehabilitation clinic, neurological clinic, neurosurgical clinic, general surgery clinic and trauma and orthopedic clinic.

Admission to early neurological rehabilitation takes place:

  • immediately after discharge or within 14 days of discharge from the center of treatment of acute forms of the nervous system damage – in case of comorbidities,

  • immediately after discharge of within 30 days of discharge from the center of treatment of acute disease forms – in the absence of comorbidities.

Patients applying to the Department should bring personal belongings, footwear for change, outfit for exercising (pants and shirt).

Elective admission for the hospital treatment is based on a referral for hospitalization issued by a physician. A referring physician encloses medical results that justify the initial diagnosis. The original referral is attached to the hospital’s documentation. The referral to the Department may be delivered to the hospital in person, by a third party or by mail. At the referral the patient has to indicate his/her contact number in order to determine the date of qualification.

Rules of admission:

  • The qualification for admission to the Department is carried out by the Chief of the Department, his/her Deputy or a designated physician and aims at providing an initial assessment of patient’s state of health, making decision on acceptance or refusal concerning his/her admission, qualifying the patient to the medical category (urgent case/stable case) and, if necessary, determining the initial date of patient’s admission for the treatment. The physician may commission carrying out additional medical examinations and consultation.
  • The patient applies to the secretariat of the Department with the referral for hospital treatment and with a document confirming his identity.
  • The secretary of the Department gives the patient relevant information on the further proceedings and preparation for the treatment and informs the patient in writing of the date of providing the benefits, together with justification of the chosen date.

  • Patients are entered to the queue of waiting patients, while the implementation of referrals is made by the order of the entries in the Waiting List.
  • In due time the patient applies to the previously designated place, where he/she submits a document confirming his/her identity. Verification is made of the patient’s entitlement for the benefits financed from public funds, and then the patient is directed to the physician.
  • The physician makes an assessment of the patient’s state of health, analyzes the results of medical tests, medical documentation provided by the patient and other relevant documents on the basis of which he/she shall decide on whether the patient may be admitted to the hospital or not.
  • Patients should have their own underwear, pajamas, personal hygiene articles, clothing, e.g. a tracksuit to exercise.
