About the Department


The Department has 59 beds including 12 beds at the Sub-department of Geriatrics. The department operates 24h and provides services in the field of diagnostics and treatment of adult patients. It annually admits approx. 2100 patients.
The Department employs 12 physicians (11 with a specialization in internal medicine, one in the course of specialization). Assistants have also additional specialties – in diabetes, geriatrics, endocrinology, balneology and physical medicine. The assistants of the Department also see patients in the hospital’s health center at al. Focha 33, in diabetes clinic, endocrine clinic and geriatric clinic. The effectiveness of the treatment is supported by the experienced team of nurses, dieticians and rehabilitation specialists. The Department conducts educational activity for physicians (student training, graduate internships, specialization trainings in the field of internal medicine), medical students and students of medical faculties at Cracovian schools including nursing, dietetics, physiotherapy and massage.
Inpatients have access to a wide range of diagnostic tests provided by, among others, the Institute of Laboratory Diagnostics, the Institute of Diagnostic Imaging (including CT, MRI), the Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the EEG Laboratory, the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Organ Function Tests and Hemodynamics,  the Laboratory of Spirometry. The nurses of the Department execute training programs for patients with diabetes and their families in terms of insulin therapy, glucose meters and pens handling as well as diet.

What we treat


The Department provides diagnosis and treatment of patients with general internal diseases (diseases of digestive systems, respiratory system, cardiovascular system; hypertension), diabetes, endocrine disorders (endocrine diseases), geriatric patients.

For Patients


  • Patients are admitted for treatment on the basis of a referral to the hospital. Admissions without referral are implemented in cases of sudden deterioration of the status of health and imminent threat to life.
Rules of admission:
  • Admission for hospital treatment under a physician’s referral for hospitalization takes place in the Central Admission Hall at ul. Skarbowa 1. The referring physician encloses the results of medical tests that justify the initial diagnosis. The original referral is attached to the hospital documentation.
  • Patient applies to the Central Admission Hall  with a referral for hospital treatment with a document confirming his identity.
  • The physician of the Central Admission Hall makes an assessment of a patient’s status of health, analyzes provided results of medical tests and other relevant documents, on the basis of which the physician decides on the acceptance or refusal of the patient’s admission to the hospital.
  • Patients should have their own underwear, pajamas, articles of personal hygiene.
